Climate research is mostly conducted in the developed world, where we often only experience the weather for a few brief moments each day, usually on a mad dash between our homes and our vehicles. I’ve always been amused by the fact that I completed my PhD in Atmosphere and Ocean Science in Madison, Wisconsin, a wonderful town, but a place where the only salt water can be found in the seal exhibit at the local zoo.

I am currently traveling to gain a better appreciation for the sensitivity of people’s lives to the weather and climate in the other parts of the world, mostly the Global South. I hope to communicate those findings to those of us who spend most of our lives more insulated from nature and climate.
