The small, isolated nature of Kiribati is reflected in the "did you enjoy your stay?" style questionnaire visitors are asked to complete, peppered with questions like "were the customs officials friendly?". The questionnaire offers visitors the opportunity to rate the country and its people, providing a score for such standard tourist interests like watersports and "culture". I wondered what cranky traveler would offer a low score for culture. "Frankly, your people's customs are quite pedantic. Perhaps you could develop some more flamboyant traditional dances?"

On the final page, visitors are asked to rate their overall stay. I checked the plainly labeled box between "outstanding" and "average".
